About Cobalt Canine

(well, technically its just me, Rose the Dog Trainer)

About Rose

Hi, my name is Rose Elliott  and I'm the proud owner of Cobalt Canine. I am originally from North Carolina and I'm 25 years old. I began training dogs because I am the kind of person who has to love their career. I have always loved animals and dog training allows me to share that feeling with the world through education and connection.

I grew up working in a horse barn where took care of and showed horses. I showed Saddlebreds and won academy nationals at 12 years old. Later on, I began working with dogs with the intent of pursuing a career in dog training. I started out at a dog daycare and boarding facility, where I cared for up to 200 dogs.

In 2023, I attended trade school at Highland School for Dog Trainers. I graduated the Master Dog Trainer Program, which is an intensive 6 month, in-person course where I learned just about everything you can know about the canine industry under Jason Perguson, who is now the president of the IACP. I spent my time there gaining hands-on experience with all kinds of dogs and specialties.

While I was there, I met Cortney, a fellow student with his own dog training small business back in St. Jospeh, MO. I asked him if he'd like to teach me the ropes, and I spent most of last year learning how to apply my education with real clients and learning how to build my own business.

My dog's name is Nox and he's a little over a year old. He is a Lab-Heeler mix and a total crackhead, but I love him and enjoy teaching him new things. In turn, he has taught me so much and I am grateful to be able to share that with my clients.

Then, I moved to Leavenworth, Kansas to start my own dog training business. When I am not training dogs, I work part time at KC Pet Project where I help pups with ruff lives find their forever families. I am so excited to see where this journey takes me and to help as many dogs as I can.

The Mission

My priority is making sure that every dog stays with their forever family and lives the most fulfilling life they possibly can. I want to teach people how to love their dogs even more and connect with them on a profund level.

Ideology: Balanced Training

"The only thing two dog trainers can agree on is what the third is doing wrong." -Jason Purgason

I believe in doing whats best for the dog in front of me, and the fact is, every dog and every situation is different. What I don't believe in is leaving a dog behind because I refuse to find a solution that works. Personally, I take a balanced approach to training, which means I use all four quadrants of operant conditioning. I am well trained and advocate for reward-based training methods, and I am also trained by the best in the use of training tools.

The bottom line is there will never be a one-size-fits-all for dog training. However, there are a few things that stay consistent in my methodology. I believe in boundaries, structure, and accountability. I believe in always rewarding more than I correct. I do not believe in death before discomfort. I abhore and condemn animal abuse and do not believe that the ethical use of tools falls into that category. I believe in building a loving relationship full of mutual respect with dogs. I do not believe in toxic anthropomorphism (giving human characteristics to animals.) Dogs are amazing, intelligent, animals with compelling instincts and biological needs. I believe that nature and nurture play equal parts in a dog's personality. I belive that while dogs are a human's best friend, we must also be a dog's best friend in return.

Education: Highland K9 Master Dog Trainer

Unlike countless other trainers that learned through online courses, I received my education at Highland School for Dog Trainers through their 6-month Master Dog Trainer program. My education is what truly distinguishes me from other trainers. While other trainers have a hypothetical knowledge, I have hands on experience. While I was at Highland K9, I studied nearly all the corners of the dog training world. I personally worked with dogs from from an extensive range of disciplines.
